On October 28, the entertainment world was shaken by the sudden loss of Matthew Perry, the beloved “Friends” actor who left an indelible mark with his iconic role as Chandler Bing. The results of the autopsy, released by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, have unveiled a heartbreaking narrative surrounding Perry’s demise, shedding light on the acute effects of the anesthetic ketamine and the complexities of experimental treatments and substance interactions.

Friends and associates of Perry revealed tat the actor was undergoing keta infusion therapy, an experimental treatment targeting depression and anxiety. The autopsy, however, raised concerns as the levels of ketamine detected in Perry’s body far exceeded those expected from his last treatment 1 1/2 weeks prior. The medical examiner emphasized that these elevated levels could induce loss of consciousness, compromising Perry’s ability to stay afloat in the water.

The autopsy report further unveiled contributors to Perry’s tragic demise, including coronary artery disease and buprenorphine, a medication treating opioid use disorder. Dr. Andrew Stolbach from Johns Hopkins Medicine emphasized the impact of the ketamine levels, stating that they could have played a role in Perry’s inability to keep himself above water. The report also warned against the potential risks associated with combining ketamine and buprenorphine, as their central nervous system depressant properties could exacerbate respiratory issues.

Despite past struggles with substance abuse, Matthew Perry had reportedly maintained sobriety for an impressive 19 months leading up to his passing. This period marked a commendable achievement in his personal journey and highlighted his dedication to overcoming challenges. The actor’s commitment to sobriety added an extra layer of poignancy to the tragedy, emphasizing the unpredictability of life’s twists and turns.
